Hawaii is the 50th state to join the United States of America. The state is composed entirely of islands located in the Pacific Ocean, roughly 2000 miles southwest of the contiguous United States. Hawaii has rich volcanic soil and is ideal for farming. Hawaii is the only U.S. state that grows coffee. In 2006, Kona coffee was named by Forbes.com as one of the world’s top 10 most expensive brews at around $34 per pound.
Mauna Kea is the worlds tallest volcano measuring at 33,476 feet. 19,680 feet of Mauna Kea is actually below the surface of the water.
