Capt. Bergeron’s drone tour of Île Tintamarre, St. Martin
Île Tintamarre is an 80 acre island with an area of approximately 0.8 square kilometres (0.3 sq mi). It is located in the Caribbean Sea, about 3 kilometres (2 mi) from the island of Saint Martin, and is administered as part of the French overseas collectivity of Saint Martin.
Today, the island has no human occupants; but, in the past, this island had it’s own king, navy and airline.
Local legend says, Diederick Crestiaan van Romondt built a home and ran several businesses on Tintamarre. He grew cotton, raised cattle and sheep, produced butter and cheese and ran the island’s only store.
He owned the island and reigned unmolested in almost regal independence, as reported by a French Journalist of Journal de Paris, August 23rd, 1913 in an article titled: “Le Roi de Tintainarre”.
