News On Potcake Place Rescue
We had updates come in on Potcake Place!
Potcake Place is a rescue on Turks and Caicos; which was hit by Hurricane Irma with Category 5 strength.
Information status on the Islands has been slow since much of the communications systems have been damage.
As we get information in, we will share it.
This is from Laurie, a volunteer at Potcake Place Rescue:
“This is Laurie. I was off island for holidays when Irma started and we could not make it back. Jane was there and managed to get all pups into foster homes. These amazing people opened up their homes to our pups even though they had their own families and pets to worry about.
Jane’s house has suffered some damage and everyone on the island is without power. Cell towers and power poles are down
I saw video today of Salt Mills and structurally it looks pretty good but I don’t know when anyone can get in to check.
Jane is likely conserving her phone batteries and I doubt she will be posting much in the next few days, but I wanted everyone to know she is ok. I am sure she will update when she can.
The airport is flooded and we don’t know when it will reopen. I have Thursday and I have heard Saturday next week. No one knows.
We will update as we can.”
We also received this information:
Update Sept 11, 2017: Power is being slowly restored to various parts of the island but will be weeks for some areas to regain it. There are 500 poles down at least. Provo airport re opened today but regular flights not into Provo until later this week. Food and gas are scarce and will be until shipments arrive on island. We will update as we can.
CaribbeanDays we share information on the Caribbean Islands as we learn more!
