1. Pay off your bills before you leave or schedule automatic payments for your bills to avoid incurring any late fees.
  2. Sort through your wallet and remove items you don’t need for your trip.
  3. Make copies of important items. Make photo copies of your passport, driver’s license and credit cards in case you lose them.
  4. Update your calendar. Check and reschedule any work and/or nonwork appointments you have.
  5. Put mail on hold at the post office or arrange for a neighbor to take in your mail.
  6. Call your bank. Let your bank or credit card provider know that you’re going to be out of town so they should expect to see charges and activity that is unusual.
  7. Unplug and switch off appliances such at the TV and computer.
  8. Create an automated email response stating you will be unavailable and will follow up in a few days.
  9. Make a checklist of things to bring and double check it. Include things like money, prescriptions, itinerary, confirmation numbers, emergency contact numbers, chargers, passport, tickets, and more.
  10. Clean out your fridge and trash.
  11. Wash your sheets and laundry.
  12. Pack your chargers, and fully charge your electronics.
  13. Put liquid items in plastic baggies. Be sure to put your liquid items, such as cosmetics, into plastic baggies so they won’t get confiscated by customs.
  14. Make arrangements for the care of your pets.
