Disney Legend and Master Planner John Hench

Disney Legend John Hench, June 29, 1908 – February 5, 2004, was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He attended the Art Students’ League in New York City and received a scholarship to Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles. He also attended the California School of Fine Arts in San Francisco and Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.

He was a master planner of Walt Disney World and Tokyo Disneyland and develop ideas for theme parks, including Disney’s California Adventure, Animal Kingdom, and Tokyo DisneySea.

His credit window in Disneyland, California can be seen above the Main Street Photo Supply Company Disneyland and says: “Plaza School of Art – Instructors – Herbert Ryman – John Hench – Peter Ellenshaw”
