Disney World’s Splash Mountain Getting a Refurbishment
~~Zip-a-dee-doo-dah…zip-a-dee-ay…My, oh my, what a wonderful day…Plenty of sunshine headin’ my way…Zip-a-dee-doo-dah…zip-a-dee-ay.~~
Splash Mountain is based on Disney’s film “Song of the South” and has been one of it’s top thrill rides since 1989. Early in it’s development, it was actually called “Zip-a-Dee River Run.” The ride combines elements from a variety of different stories retold in the movie; ‘Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah,’ ‘How Do You Do?’ and ‘Everybody’s Got a Laughin’ Place’ can be heard in the queue area and during the ride which are from Song of the South.
Currently, Splash Mountain is closed until November 16 for a few upgrades. Then, Splash Mountain will be closing again January 8th through February 1st, 2018. For the rest of it’s refurbishments.
One element I hope is kept is a little gag that some of the Imagineers played on each other. There is a cave-like room just before the last drop. A little critter drops down out of the ceiling and says, “Go FSU!” That was added in jest to an Imagineer that graduated from Florida State!
Want to see this little critter since more refurbishments will be taking place? Book with CaribbeanDays to ride Splash Mountain between November 16 and January 8th to find this critter!
