Meet and Greet Oswald! Do you know who he is?
June 1, 1924 – Walt Disney offers Ub Iwerks a job to come and work with him. Ub initially turned down the offer since he was already working for a film advertising company. Ub was considered to be Walt Disney’s oldest friend and did join him as chief animator.
Ub Iwerks created a cartoon named Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927. But Disney lost legal rights to the character.
After losing the rights to Oswald, Walt Disney asked Iwerks to create a new character; but, not another rabbit. Disney asked for a mouse and suggested calling the new character MORTIMER MOUSE.
It was Lillian Disney, wife of Walt Disney, that felt Mortimer sounded too pompous and suggested naming him Mickey.
The legal rights to Oswald were finally reacquired by Disney in 2006.
Book at stay at Disney with us to meet and great Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
